Night Veterinary Care Assistant

Stansted Veterinary Specialists is a new, multidisciplinary, small animal referral clinic which opened in August 2025.
We offer Specialist-led services in diagnostic imaging, cardiology, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology, orthopaedics & soft tissue surgery.
We are independent and owned exclusively by the team working within the clinic, putting pets and people at the heart of everything that we do.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Night Veterinary Care Assistant to join our independently owned referral clinic. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working nights and takes pride in delivering excellent inpatient care during quieter but critical hours.
You will be a key part of the overnight team, working alongside a registered veterinary nurse and on-site veterinary surgeons to care for hospitalised patients, support emergency and referral cases, and ensure the clinic runs smoothly and safely throughout the night.
What You’ll Be Doing
Providing hands-on care for inpatients, working closely with the overnight registered veterinary nurse and veterinary surgeons
Ensuring patient comfort, cleanliness, and wellbeing throughout the night
Monitoring patients overnight alongside the veterinary and nursing team
Assisting with patient handling and restraint in a calm and compassionate manner
Supporting emergency and urgent cases as they arrive overnight
Assisting vets and nurses with overnight procedures, diagnostics, and treatments
Preparing and cleaning clinical areas, kennels, and wards
Cleaning, sterilising, and maintaining equipment and instruments
Maintaining high standards of hygiene and infection control throughout the clinic
Completing basic records and contributing to clear handovers for the day team
Helping ensure the clinic is organised and ready for the following day
What We’re Looking For
Essential
Previous experience working in a veterinary clinic (essential)
Confidence caring for hospitalised patients
Calm, practical approach and ability to prioritise tasks during night shifts
Strong communication skills and a team-focused attitude
Right to work in the UK
Desirable
Experience in a veterinary referral or emergency and critical care environment
Relevant animal care or veterinary qualifications
What We Offer
Salary of £32,315 per annum
7 nights on / 7 nights off rota, supporting work–life balance
Paid 1-hour break included in every 12-hour shift
25 nights annual leave (including Bank Holidays)
