Outpatient Imaging

This service is for patients that need advanced cross-sectional imaging in CT or MRI but not the wider expertise of other Specialist departments at Stansted Veterinary Specialists.

Cases will be admitted and discharged by a member of our nursing team and studies will be reported by a Specialist Radiologist. The results will be communicated to you directly so that your veterinary surgeons can then discuss the findings with your clients.

Outpatient imaging is available on an elective basis only - not for emergency cases. We will review all imaging requests for suitability prior to contacting clients to arrange an appointment. We may contact you to discuss the case further prior to and during an appointment if necessary.

Region(s) to be examined (select all relevant options)?

This selection does not necessarily equate to the number of body areas that will be billed to the client. When overlapping anatomical areas cannot be avoided with standardised patient positioning additional fees will not be incurred.

Are additional non-routine contrast procedures required?
No
Yes (please state)

Requirements for specific advanced contrast studies should be outlined here, including: sentinel lymph node mapping, lymphangiography, dacryocystography, sialography, arthrography, excretory urography, pyelography etc.

Is it safe to give intravenous contrast agents to this patient?
Yes
No

Intravenous contrast agents, particularly those used in CT studies, carry a risk of adverse drug reactions as with any other drug. Of particular note is the risk of contrast-induced nephropathy, which may occur in upto 8% of dogs to some degree, with a potentially greater risk of significant harm in those animals with pre-existing renal disease. We would be happy to discuss this further with you at the time of referral if required.

Do you consider this patient safe to enter an MRI environment?
Yes
No
Not Applicable (for CT)

The strong magnetic field in the MRI environment are harmless to most patients. Owner questioning and screening of the clinical history is however needed to identify patients that could have specific metals or implants within the body - which pose a potential a risk of migration, heating, or malfunction when placed into an MRI environment. This includes but is not limited to: surgical implants, vascular clips, cardiac pacemakers, nerve stimulators, drug delivery devices, and shotgun shrapnel.

Have you provided recent blood test results
Yes (uploaded below)
No

At our discretion, we may run additional blood tests at cost to the client if it is deemed necessary to plan a safe procedure regarding sedation, anaesthesia and contrast administration.

Videos, images, documents, audio and archive (zip) files accepted. If you wish to upload large or unsupported file types please contact info@svs.vet
