Internal Medicine
The internal medicine service at Stansted Veterinary Specialist is run by Rachel Miller and Mayank Seth. Between us we have over 30 years of experience in the field of internal medicine.
As internal medicine specialists, we focus on the diagnosis and treatment of problems associated with your pet’s internal organs, and the more common problems we manage include:
-
Gastrointestinal problems (vomiting, diarrhoea, weight loss, inappetence)
-
Excessive thirst or urination
-
Hormonal conditions (diabetes mellitus, thyroid disease, adrenal gland disease)
-
Respiratory problems (sneezing, coughing, breathing difficulties)
-
Infectious diseases
-
High body temperature (pyrexia)
-
Liver disease
-
Problems affecting the blood cells or bone marrow
-
Unexplained lethargy
We are often thought of as the ‘problem solvers’ of the hospital, as patients with internal medicine conditions can present to us with very non-specific clinical signs and we work through a problem orientated approach to help you reach a diagnosis for your pet. We do understand that when the cause of your pet’s illness is unclear this can be challenging and frustrating and we are here to help you.
At Stansted Veterinary Specialists, we provide a multidisciplinary approach to case and work closely with our diagnostic imaging, surgical, anaesthesia, neurology, and nursing teams to help achieve the best outcome for our patients.
We may use a range of tools in the clinic to aid our diagnostic investigation including:
-
Our clinic laboratory for blood tests and urinalysis
-
Our specialist-led diagnostic imaging service provides rapid turnaround times in ultrasound, digital radiology, fluoroscopy, CT and MRI
-
Endoscopy (including a range of equipment suitable for upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy, vaginoscopy and urethrocystoscopy)
-
Thoracoscopy and and laparoscopy procedures (performed by our soft tissue surgical specialist)
We offer intensive care facilities for any patients presenting to us that are very unwell. We also offer variety of specialist treatments including radioiodine treatment of hyperthyroid cats, and interventional procedures such as tracheal stenting, urethral stenting, and the treatment of intrahepatic portosystemic shunts.
